Dates: October 9, 2016
Time: 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM
The Alexandre Mouton House/Lafayette Museum and the Lafayette Public Library System present guest speaker, Claire Manes. Claire Manes has been a teacher at the elementary, high school, college, and adult level. For most of her life she searched for information and evidence of her grandfather who had died in Carville, Louisiana thirteen years before she was born. There was no talk of him or of his four siblings, all incarcerated in the Carville leprosarium between 1919 and 1977. When letters from her grandfather were discovered, Claire found her grandfather and a personal project. She returned to ULL for her doctorate and later wrote Out of the Shadow of Leprosy: the Carville Letters and Stories of the Landry Family. She continues to teach as an adjunct instructor at ULL.
Doors Open at 1:30 p.m. Seating is limited for this free event which is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
