Festivals Acadiens et Créoles
October 10-12, 2008
Girard Park & Downtown
Lafayette, Louisiana

Celebrate the rhythm of Cajun and Creole life at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles in Lafayette, the heart of French Louisiana. Dance to a traditional waltz. Two-step to the upbeat rhythms of accordions, fiddles and ti fers (triangles). Step back in time as traditional crafters demonstrate their artistry. Festivals Acadiens et Créoles pays tribute to the Cajun and Creole cultures with a combination of FREE festivals. Held the second weekend in October!

Honoring Zachary Richard
The 2008 Festivals Acadiens et Créoles is dedicated to musician, singer and composer Zachary Richard for his many contributions to the preservation and promotion of Cajun and Creole music. He opened doors to the rest of the Francophone world, including Québec, the Acadian Maritime provinces and France, where he has become a major musical figure. Richard has also long been active in the effort to preserve our French Language and culture through organizations including Action Cadienne and other efforts such as documentary films, literary publications and public readings.

2008 Pin & Poster
The original painting of Zachary Richard used as inspiration for the 2008 poster and pin is by Thad Matthew Morgan. Morgan's paintings are masterpieces of vibrant color as he pays homage to the early 20th century Fauvist movement. His work explores the symbolic use of form and movement, havng the ability to influence feelings, trigger emotions and alter moods. Morgan focuses on jazz and blues musicians, cultural icons, children and animals, and South Louisiana people. More information on Thad Morgan can be found at www.thadmorgan.com. The pin and poster were designed by award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated graphic artist Megan Barra.
