Festivals Acadiens et Creoles 2010 Schedule
October 8 - 10, 2010 | Lafayette, Louisiana Celebrate the rhythm of Cajun and Creole life at Festivals Acadiens et Créoles in Lafayette, the heart of French Louisiana.
Wayne Toups 2010 Festivals Acadiens et Creoles Honoree
Festivals Acadiens et Créoles 2010 is dedicated in honor of Wayne Toups, easily one of the most influential Cajun musicians of our time. His energetic and innovative ZydeCajun renditions of both traditional and original music captured our attention as early as the 1980s, when he burst onto the scene with a rousing performance at Festivals Acadiens, after years of
apprenticeship in the area's dance halls. He went on to influence a new generation of young musicians.
Wayne's music is based on a deft combination of deep respect for tradition and bold creativity. He honors of the musical heritage he draws on while turning everything he plays, old and new, into his own. It is obvious his music comes from a deep and powerful place and that it is fueled by an equally powerful process.
A few years ago, after Wayne had once again thrilled the Festivals Acadiens et Créoles crowd with an all-French set of his souped-up fusion of Cajun music and zydeco, he looked us in the eyes with tears in his own and said, "This is such an important part of me." Judging from the reaction of the crowd, it's important to them, too. The spirit of that moment is an important part of what drives Wayne Toups. The stakes are high and Wayne is all in.
