The name 2Pauls has become synonymous with excellent barbeque but ever wonder where the name came from? Owners Gary Roy and Marilynn Adams, the two Pauls, both have the same middle name, Paul (she spells hers Paule). The pair dated in high school but reuniting 43 years later is when they made that discovery. Spending those 43 years in Oklahoma, its no surprise Gary had become an accomplished barbeque pitmaster. Together again in Lafayette, the couple loved entertaining and cooking for friends, where Gary would smoke his delicious ribs, always a favorite among their guests. After friends started pleading with him to open up a barbeque restaurant the pair decided to dive in and, thus, 2 Pauls Radically Urban Barbeque was born. 2 Pauls barbeque process starts at 7 p.m. each evening, with pork butts and briskets going into the smoker overnight where they smoke for 14 16 hours. The sweet smell of pecan wood drifts throughout the neighborhood until 6 a.m. when the meat is turned and will continue cooking until 10 a.m. Next come the ribs, potatoes, chicken, turkey, and sausage-the remaining menu items that need to cook four hours. Everything comes out of the smoker around 10 a.m., fresh and ready to serve, and then the process starts all over again. Perhaps the best part about eating at 2 Pauls is they are always cooking and you are never eating yesterdays leftovers. At 2 Pauls you will find good, consistent, premium barbeque with a radically urban twist. You will feel right at home with the custom decor throughout, complete with funky art and a very cool vibe. Be sure to visit them on Tuesdays where the ribs take center stage with an all you can eat feast. 2 Pauls has two locations, one at 2668 Johnston Street, located in the Albertsons strip mall at the intersection with College, and the other in Broussard at 4016 Hwy 90 East, at the corner of North Morgan Street.
