Blue Monday returns this month with a tribute to three of Lafayette’s greatest blues artists. The local musician fundraising event will pay homage to the late guitar great Lil Buck Sinegal, pianist and singer Carol Fran, and zydeco soul multi-instrumentalist Major Handy at the Grouse Room.

Cajun trio supergroup T’Monde will provide well-crafted traditional sounds to Hawk’s Thursday evening crawfish boil at the Acadian Superette. Grammy nominees Sweet Cecilia will perform for those at home with their virtual Downtown Alive concert Friday evening while Cedric Watson and his band will take the Hideaway on Lee stage.

The Freetown Boom Boom Room will host a three-band bill of heavy local sounds Saturday night with Big Void, Kiva, and punk rockers OTC. Zydeco brunch returns to Prejean’s with the Accordion Dragon, Corey Ledet, on Sunday morning.

You’ll hear a mix of blues, Cajun, rock, and zydeco in this edition of Lafayette Weekly. Major Handy’s reggae-influenced take-off “Colinda,” Carol Fran’s stripped-down “Tous Les Jours Sont Pas La Même Choses,” and Lil Buck’s classic proto-funk single, “Cat Scream,” kick this week’s playlist off. The music continues with the latest from rockers Kiva and beautiful acoustic French songs by T’ Monde. Some upbeat zydeco from Corey Ledet and Cedric Watson, including a collaboration between the two, close out the mixtape.
