While venues are slowly opening back up in Lafayette, some of our favorite live music events are still limited to online streams. Festival International de Louisiana is the Hub City's largest of these occasions. Last year's experimental virtual version of the world music gathering was a hit, even with only a month preparing for its conception and release. This year the non-profit organization behind the beloved festival has had much more time to plan and get creative.

Starting on Friday, viewers of the free online event will get a chance to hear an eclectic array of sounds. Artists from all of the world, and plenty from right here in Louisiana, will showcase their music, art, and dance from their homes to yours. Quebec's Les Gars du Nord, Doctor Nativo from Guatemala. and Thomas Dutronc are just a few of the international performers featured this year. The online show will also broadcast past performances and a kids portion on Saturday morning and an Acadian/Louisianan comedic collaboration featuring beloved musicians from both regions.

This extended edition of Lafayette Weekly will feature plenty of the groups scheduled this week in Lafayette, as well as those playing for this year's virtual fest. You'll hear kora virtuoso Sona Jobarteh, Grammy nominees Cameron Dupuy & the Cajun Troubadours, and "Tiempos de Amor," from Las Cafeteras. Other tracks included from artists performing for Festival International include "What Happened to Me," from Japan's Zydeco Kicks, "Ti-gars," by New Brunswick singer/songwriter Lisa Leblanc, and a duet by Thomas Dutronc and Jane Birken. The latest from Locque, DG and the Freetown Sound, and Curley Taylor are also in the mix.
