This is the first time in its 30 plus year existence that Festival International will not take place. The five-day outdoor event attracts more tourists each year than any other festival held in the Hub City. Much like most of our local musicians, the organizers behind the world music celebration got creative and decided to host a live streaming production this weekend.
Virtual Festival International will feature a wide array of musicians from all over the globe, and some from right here in Louisiana. Those tuning in will also be able to catch some memorable archived performances from years past. Much like the traditional Sunday afternoon closing set, Virtual Fest has a surprise finale to close things out.
I will be featuring many of the artists participating in this weekend’s event for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear Acadian hip hop from festival favorites Radio Radio, hypnotic Haitian rock from RAM, and doom dobro blues from Dege Legg. Also in the mix are tracks from Guadeloupean Créole trio Delgres and Brazilian "pachanga folk" band Francisco, el Hombre who are both set to make performances from their homes transmitted directly to yours.
