This week some familiar singers and players from Acadiana will be hosting streaming events. Live from Cha Cha Studios will host Zydeco Bad Boy Terry Domingue and his band. At the same time, The Rusty and Fanny Show will broadcast their 5th puppet variety show. We'll also see online concerts from the Lafayette-based indie-folk outfit the Rayo Brothers and country rocker Lane Mack for the Online Roadshow presented by Mustang 107.1 FM.
Last weekend's Virtual Festival International raised the bar to what can be done in place of an actual outdoor music gathering. Thousands of people tuned in as the annual cultural event streamed past performances and remote recordings from artists from all over the world. I have a feeling a lot of our local groups took notice of what can be done with this new format. I don't think we'll see it this week, but I have a feeling many performers will start to get a bit more creative with their approach to internet busking.
In this edition of Lafayette Weekly, I'll be featuring several swinging tunes by New Orleans guitar virtuoso Russell Welch (Rusty) and Givers frontwoman Tiffany Lamson (Fanny) with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Other tracks in the mix include the Zydeco Bad Boys' version of "Joe Pete a deux femmes," "My True Love" by David Doucet, and two from the latest album by the Rayo Brothers. Several songs by the reigning King of Cajun, Wayne Toups, are also in this week's playlist.
