Jake Spinella of Dr. Daylight Jazz Co. has been gearing up to release his project’s second album, Potluck. The new record is a nod to the sounds of New Orleans from the early 20th century and features some of Lafayette’s most recognized singers: Ray Boudreaux, Julie Williams, Kelli Jones, Linnzie Zaorski, Rob Pate, Spencer Racca, and Sasha Massey all make appearances on Potluck and will take part in the release show this Saturday at the Hideaway on Lee.

Cedric Watson and his band will also be at the Hideaway this week, performing on Friday night. If you’re looking to dance but can’t make it out Friday, Chubby Carrier will be wrapping up the weekend at Rock n’ Bowl for a Sunday evening dance.

We’ll be featuring Dr. Daylight Jazz Co. for this edition of Lafayette Weekly in anticipation of the release of their new album. You’ll hear tracks from their self-titled debut as well as selections from the guest singers who will be performing Saturday night. Dr. Daylight’s take on the classic “St. James Infirmary,” “I Didn’t Mean It” by K. C. Jones aka Kelli Jones, and Ray Boudreaux’s 2015 single, “Even If I Tried” are all included in this week’s playlist. Also in the mix is some upbeat zydeco from Cedric Watson and Chubby Carrier.
