While we're still navigating how to live in the midst of rising COVID cases, Lafayette has been creative in ways to enjoy live music. The Acadiana Center for the Arts is presenting their Socially Distanced Concert series kickoff with local soul songster Ray Boudreaux along with special guests Julian Primeaux and Teka Briscoe. Masks are required to those who attend and will have to follow spacing protocols. If you're not interested in experiencing the performance in person, the ACA will also stream the show live on Thursday evening.
That same night, Lafayette-based Americana outfit will bring their banjo led ballads to The Hideaway with special guests, Aaron Johnston and the Southerniers. Folk music master Dirk Powell and collaborator, singer/songwriter Rainy Eyes are set to play the patio stage at the Hideaway Friday night. Kelli Jones and Chris Stafford, notably of Feufollet, will share harmonies and swap songs on Sunday for brunch at the same venue.
In this edition of Lafayette Weekly, you'll hear mostly a mix of acoustic folk from right here in Acadiana. The latest single from Dirk Powell, "Olivia," kicks things off followed by songs from the Rayo Brothers and Julian Primeaux. Ray Boudreaux's acoustic version of "Why Don't We," "Moon in the Mirror" by Rainy Eyes, and Kelli Jones' fiddle led "When You Said Goodbye" are also queued up for this week's playlist. I threw in several stripped down lagnaippe tracks along with the artists playing this week. These include "Homemade Songs" by Bobby Charles, Tommy Mclain's "Memories" from Lil Band O Gold's Promised Land, and a folky recording of Jimmy Donley's swamp pop standard, "Think it Over".
