This Wednesday afternoon, Louis Michot’s Melody Makers will play a special live stream concert to benefit coastal restoration projects. Michot’s experimental French music group with special guest Leyla McCalla will provide sounds for the wild game cookoff fundraiser. The virtual event requires guests to RSVP to receive the link to experience the show.

With warmer weather moving in, live music returns to outdoor stages at restaurants and bars in Lafayette this week. My Place on Foreman Dr. will host two country favorites from our area, with Kip Sonnier performing on Wednesday evening and Blaine Roy on Friday. Rock and soul singer Ray Boudreaux will perform at the Hideaway on Saturday, while famed Cajun musicians Jimmy Breaux, Wilson Savoy, and Drew Simon will take the stage Sunday.

I’ll highlight Michot’s Melody Makers and renowned Creole cellist Leyla McCalla in this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear the electro Cajun hip hop of “Two Step de Ste Maire,” McCalla’s “Lavi Vye Neg,” and a duet between the two famed Louisiana musicians on the cello and fiddle waltz, “Les Plats Sont Tous Mis Sur la Table.” Also in the mix are tracks by the Pine Leaf Boys featuring Wilson Savoy and Drew Simon, 90s country sounds by Blaine Roy and Kip Sonnier, and a tribute from Jimmy Breaux to the King of the Cajun Accordion, Aldus Roger. All that plus a couple of lagniappe tunes by legendary Abbeville-born singer/songwriter Bobby Charles, who celebrated a heavenly birthday on Sunday.
