The Hideaway on Lee is hosting a mix of experimental jazz, swamp rock, and acoustic ballads this week. Multi-instrumentalist Josh Leblanc is leading Electronic Jazz Night at the downtown club on Thursday, while singer/songwriter Derrick Savoie and his Sad Boys will take the stage Friday night. The music on Saturday night will be provided by Cajun rockers Radio Zydeco.
A large list of local favorites will come together this Saturday to help raise funds for cancer patient Josh Fontenot. The outdoor benefit will feature a gumbo cook-off and 7 acts. Fontenot is diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a very rare form of bone cancer.
As we’re still in Mardi Gras season, I’ll be mixing in some Carnival songs with tracks by artists performing this week for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear several tunes from Radio Zydeco, a couple from Josh LeBlanc’s Serpentine Man, and the local country sounds of Kip Sonnier. “It Was My Fault,” and “Blood & Water,” both from Derrick Savoie’s 2020 self-titled EP, are also in the mix alongside The Meter’s classic Fat Tuesday anthem and Bobby Charles’ “Mardi Gras Song,” featuring Sonny Landreth and Dr. John.
