Mardi Gras season is upon us now that we’re in the new year. While we traditionally take down Christmas decorations on 12th night, we also put up our purple, green, and gold. Although this year’s carnival will be different due to COVID restrictions, the spirit in Lafayette is still alive.

There’s plenty of music to catch during his first week of 2021. Multi-instrumentalist Josh Leblanc of GIVERS will be performing a set with his jazz quartet on Thursday evening at the Hideaway. Modern folk rockers the Rayo Brothers will take the same stage the following night.

If you’re looking for some sounds uniquely local to South Louisiana, accordionist Deuce Chambers and his band, Zydeco Integrity, will be rocking the outdoor stage at My Place and Grill on Saturday.

I’ll be featuring music by the artists performing this week as well as some music to get you into the Mardi Gras spirit for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear Josh Leblanc performing with the Preservation Jazz Band and his own group, GIVERS. Also in the mix is some upbeat Crйole sounds from Deuce Chambers, Cedric Watson, and Boozoo Chavis.
