The brothers of Cajun music's most famous family will perform a rare and intimate concert this weekend at the Hideaway on Lee. Famed fiddler and producer Joel Savoy will trade licks with his younger sibling and Pine Leaf Boy, accordionist/pianist/vocalist Wilson Savoy on Friday night. The two both won a GRAMMY for the Joel produced Courtbouillon album featuring Wilson with fellow South Louisiana stars, Steve Riley and Wayne Toups.
Toups will also be on stage this week. The Crowley native will play an online concert from Rock'n'Bowl on Saturday night with his all-star Cajun country crossover band, ZydeCajun. Up and coming blue-eyed soul-pop party band, The Good Dudes will also be live streaming with a show from the downtown venue and bowling alley on Friday.
I'll be featuring music mainly from Les Frères Savoy this week. You'll hear tracks with the two playing with their parents, Marc and Ann, in the Savoy Family Band as well as the traditional French supergroup, Courtbouillon. A few other recordings by brothers from the bayou include songs by Louis and Andre Michot of Lost Bayou Ramblers, Chris and Sean Ardoin, and the ancient sounds of the Carriere Brothers.
