The annual summertime celebration of our area’s cultural roots will make its way online this year. Creole Culture Day is set to broadcast via Vermilionville’s Facebook page this Sunday morning, starting at 10:00 am. Fraternal Folklore will be the theme this year and will honor important and influential men of our unique region.
Zydeco favorites Corey Ledet, and Leroy Thomas will perform throughout the live steam in between highlights on local artists, cooking classes, and discussions on language. Dancehall favorite Wayne Singleton and his group Same Ole Two Step will close out the day with a full concert performance.
Corey Ledet, Leroy Thomas, and Wayne Singleton will make up the majority of this week’s playlist along with some local classics and overlooked Creole gems. You’ll hear “Les Blues de Voyage,” by the legendary Amédée Ardoin, Beau Jocque’s “Nonc Adam,” and the title track of Wayne Singleton’s Built Creole Tough album. Also in the mix are a couple from Clifton Chenier, Cedric Watson, and reigning King Creole, Keith Frank.
