St. Patrick's Day celebrations were the first events to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year. This Wednesday will make up for what we missed last year with rare performances by two of Louisiana's most legendary artists. Downtown Alive! also returns this week with a virtual concert by local hitmaker Cupid.

Swamp pop crooner and gulf coast rocker Tommy McLain will perform two stripped-down, intimate performances at the Hideaway on Wednesday and Thursday. Long-time collaborator C.C. Adcock will join him on guitar along with several special surprise guests. McLain will be performing his past hits and some brand new material from his forthcoming album on Decca Records.

Cajun fiddler Michael Doucet and his long-time Grammy-winning band, Beausoleil, will present a special St. Paddy's Day virtual concert on Wednesday evening as well. Doucet and the group recently released an album of dancehall standards entitled Evangeline Waltz. The acclaimed violinist's newest side project Lâcher Prise also just put a record, a self-titled debut consisting of modern Creole fusion sounds that only Doucet can conjure.

For this edition of Lafayette Weekly, I'll be featuring music from both Beausoleil and Tommy McLain. You'll hear Tommy and C.C. Adcock together on the Lil Band O Gold's "Memories," "Lula Lula," from Lâcher Prise, and a set of fiddle tunes from Beausoleil.  Also in the mix is music from acclaimed accordionist Chubby Carrier, Louisiana-born R&B star Cupid, and Cajun country favorite, Richard LeBouef.
