With vaccines in circulation and bar restrictions lifted, live music is almost close to being back to some sort of normal in Lafayette. Cajun and zydeco sounds return to Hub City staples like the Blue Moon Saloon and Cowboys Nightclub this week.
Modern Cajun accordion favorite Kevin Naquin and his Ossun Playboys kick the weekend off with an early dance at Cowboy's starting at 6:30 pm on Friday. Fiddler and French music songwriter Jourdan Thibodeaux and his all-star band, Les Rôdailleurs will play the Blue Moon later that night at the same time Dustin Sonnier plays at Rock n' Bowl down the street.
Mike Broussard's Nu Edition Zydeco will be laying down double-clutch beats at the Blue Moon on Saturday night. Local radio rock cover band Shotgun Lillie will take the stage inside at the Grouse Room.
For this edition of Lafayette Weekly, I'll be featuring the Youngbull of Zydeco, Mike Broussard. You'll hear tracks from his latest release, "Live from Black n' Gold," as well as his collaboration with fiddle man J.C. Leger on the "Lewisburg 2-Step." Dustin Sonnier's Gulf Coast country radio hit "Missin' You Mississippi," as well as his rockin' "From the Stones to Jones," are included alongside several Cajun and Creole sounds from Jourdan Thibodeaux and Kevin Naquin.
