With Lent coming to an end this week and covid restrictions being lifted, live music seems to be back in full swing. Louisiana French preservationist and musician Jourdan Thibodeaux will provide sounds with his high-profile bandmates Cedric Watson and Joel Savoy at the Hawk’s Boil Up crawfish feast. The pop-up dinner and concert is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Acadian Superette’s new outside patio.
Damon Troy will bring his accordion-fueled modern Cajun country mix to Cowboy’s on Good Friday. Travis Matte and his Zydeco Kingpins are set to play Rock n’ Bowl Saturday night, while local and international favorite Geno Delafose will play the Easter Sunday dance on the same stage. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key on Sunday, classic jazz will be provided by Dr. Daylight on the patio at Hideaway.
There’s plenty of South Louisiana French sounds in this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear a track from Thibodeaux’s Rôdailleurs and other recordings by their respected members. Travis Matte’s diverse repertoire is featured with his modern zydeco rock on “Mop the Floor,” and his take on Iry LeJeune’s “Cath My Hat” paired with several tunes from Geno Delafose fill out the rest of the mix. Also included are three brand new tracks from former Shrugs singer and local bilingual songwriter Renée Reed. The Lafayette-based musician released her debut solo album last week on Keeled Scales record.
