The beloved Freetown Cajun jam returns to the Blue Moon Saloon Wednesday evening after a year-long hiatus. Pine Leaf Boy drummer and T'Monde frontman Drew Simon will host the session on accordion.
Another Pine Leaf, Wilson Savoy, will team up with his brother Joel and local rhythm aces Jim Kolacek and Chris French for an eclectic night of roots music on Friday. Blues-rock guitarist Mike Zito is set to play a few blocks away at the Grouse Room that night.
Rockin' Dopsie Jr. and his zydeco show band will bring their party sound to the Courtyard At the Grouse Room Saturday night. Music returns to Cowboys this week with accordion man Jamie Bergeron and his Kickin' Cajuns taking the stage Saturday night with their blend of the good timin' set of originals and South Louisiana classics.
This edition of Lafayette Weekly explores the diverse discographies of the artists listed this week. You'll hear the Brother's Savoy take on the Cajun blues standard "Sugar Bee," "Voyage d'amour," by Drew Simon of T'Monde, and Rockin' Dopsie Jr. with Fernest Arceneaux on "I'm On My Way Back Home." Also in the mix are a couple of Jamie Bergeron fan favorites, "What Am I Living For," by Pine Leaf Boys, and music from Gulf Coast blues-rocker Mike Zito.
