Lafayette will host its first week of shows now that Louisiana has entered phase 1 of lifting the stay at home order. It’s been over two months since folks have been able to congregate in bars and concert venues. These first steps into reopening won’t be what we’re used to, but it’s a start.
Only 25% of an establishment’s legal capacity will be allowed to gather during this time. Popular downtown nightspots like Artmosphere and Rock n’ Bowl are the first to have shows. Even some restaurants like The Cajun Table will provide live entertainment outdoors.
While we’re still testing the waters, other local musicians will still be performing live via Facebook. The Godfather of Swamp Pop, Warren Storm, will host a watch party this Monday evening via Rock n Bowl’s Facebook page. The legendary 83-year-old vocalist and drummer will likely be playing his classic songs like “Prisoner’s Song” and “I Don’t Want to Know”, along with standards by the likes of Fats Domino and the recently deceased Little Richard.
I’ll be showcasing Warren Storm along with DG and the Freetown Sound, Roddie Romero, and others for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear a few from the Lil Band o Gold with Storm on vocals and some Cajun tunes from Charivari featuring Jonno Fishburg and solo guitar from David Doucet.
