While live music is starting to make its way back into our community, many full-time players are still struggling financially. Marc Broussard and an all-star cast of musicians come together to help their own with Lost My Gig: The Concert. The benefit performance sponsored by Rader Solutions will take place on Tuesday evening at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The lineup includes Broussard, Chubby Carrier, Roddie Romero, Julie Williams, and many other local favorites.
Another star-studded event is taking place this week in Lafayette. The Blue Moon Saloon presents a tribute to the late singer/songwriter John Prine on Friday night. Zachary Richard, The Rayo Brothers, Jane Vidrine, and Sam Broussard are just a few of the artists participating in the show.
This edition of Lafayette Weekly will feature all of the musicians mentioned above and others I included from this week’s schedule. You’ll hear tracks from soul man Marc Broussard, zydeco favorite Chubby Carrier, and modern swamp popper Roddie Romero. Also included in the mix are bilingual acoustic ballads from Zachary Richard, Jane Vidrine, and the Rayo Brothers, and a couple of John Prine classics. All of that plus Curley Taylor’s take on Bob Marley’s “Is This Love,” “La valse à Luke,” by Huval-Fuselier Cajun Trio, and recent recordings by Chas Justus and K.C. Jones of Jonesville Justus.
