The Blue Monday jam session returns this week at the newly opened Grouse Room on Jefferson Street. Veterans of the Acadiana roots scene will gather for the first time in months to riff on standards and invite young players to the stage for the popular fundraising concert series.

Accordion driven rockers Radio Zydeco and local favorite Horace Trahan will play the Hideaway's patio stage this weekend. Swamp poppers the Foret Tradition will play belly rubbin' classics Thursday evening, virtually and in-person at Rock'n'Bowl. At the same time, Geno Delafose and his French Rockin' Boogie will provide the beat for their Sunday fais do do.

This week's playlist is a bluesy mix of zydeco, R&B, and modern Swamp Pop. You'll hear tracks from Blue Monday alumni like Carol Fran and her bilingual piano shuffle "Tous les jours c'est pas la meme," and Major Handy's take on "I'm On the Wonder." Also included are a couple of recent releases from Radio Zydeco and the soulful country regional hit, "It Must've Been Rain" from Lane Mack and Julie Williams. Along with recordings from Horace Trahan, Delafose, and Ryan Foret, I added a set of South Louisiana blues featuring Bobby Charles' loose and funky "He's Got All the Whiskey," Slim Harpo's classic "Baby Scratch My Back," and Cedric Watson's fiddle led "Ma Petite Femme."
