Like so many of our live music events this year, Downtown Alive! will present its fall season on the web. This year’s series of virtual concerts put the spotlight on many of our area’s up and coming performers like zydeco accordionist Rusty Metoyer, dance favorites the Daiquiri Queens, and DG and the Freetown Sound. This week’s artist has made waves in the past few years with only one record under his belt.

Jourdan Thibodeaux formed his supergroup, Les Rôdaillers, in the ashes of the traditional French, Tee Chaoui Social Club. With an album’s worth of songs ready to record, he assembled an impressive band of ace musicians to make his vision come to life. The Rôdailleurs included Jay Miller on drums, bassist Alan Lafleur, accordionist, and fiddler Cedric Watson, and Joel Savoy on guitar, who also served as producer. The outcome was 2018’s Boue, Boucane, et Bouteilles. The 12 song LP was an immediate hit in the Cajun music community, which led to festival performances all over the US and French-speaking Canada.

I’m mainly featuring tracks from Thibodeaux’s debut for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. I added the bluesy Creole waltz, “Chère Créole,” the driving traditional Cajun, “Belle Menteuse,” and his juré duet with Cedric Watson on “Tobie Lapierre.” You’ll hear several from local rock and soul star Ray Boudreaux, including his take on Marc Broussard’s “Home,” and an updated version of the Spencer Davis Group’s classic, “Gimme Some Lovin’.” Bar room swamp sounds from the Pine Leaf Boys and a few from Acadiana country favorite Mike Dean are also included in this week’s playlist.
