The highly anticipated opening of the Rock n' Bowl's Lafayette location finally happened last month, and on Friday downtown will get a taste of what the original New Orleans venue has offered it's followers for decades. With their regular Thursday night zydeco dances, and annual Jazz Fest blues showcase, Rock n' Bowl has made a name for itself by showcasing American roots music. While attracting music lovers has been a large part of Midcity Lane's popularity, the concept of having a concert hall and bowling alley in one room has also been able to successfully entertain both families and party-goers alike. Legendary Austin honky-tonk troubadour, Dale Watson will share the stage with Houma's favorite son, blues guitar virtuoso, Tab Benoit.

Though Texas and Louisiana share many things in common, one thing that is prevalent are the blurred lines between music genres. To pair a blues bar band with a classic country group isn't uncommon in the South Louisiana, nor the Lone Star State. If it makes em drink and dance, it works. I'm highlighting the bridge between Louisiana and Texas country, soul, and rock n' roll in this week's playlist. Included are a few tunes from Watson's 2017 release, Blackjack, several songs from Benoit's large discography, as well as some swamp pop classics and undercuts.

Other tracks in the mix include the Sir Douglas Quintet's Tex-Mex garage rock interpretation of the Cajun classic, "Sugar Bee', Tommy Mclain and Freddy Fender's duet on Aaron Neville's "Tell It Like It Is", and "Let Yourself Go", a soulful country waltz from Bobby Charles and the Band.
