Local accordion master Steve Riley is wrapping up his annual string of Christmas shows this season at the Heymann Center. The Grammy award winner and his band, the Mamou Playboys, will be joined by the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra for a night of holiday music. Also sharing the stage with the Cajun combo is Feufollet's Chris Stafford, and gospel singers Melete Terry and Alena Savoy.

Back in 2016, Riley released Party at the Holiday, All Night Long! on Joel Savoy's Valcour Records. The collection of Christmas tunes features a mix of reworked standards as well as some obscure selections, such as the EP opener, George Harrison's "Ding Dong". Another gem resurrected by the group is the title track, a song written by veteran rocker Steve LaFleur that pays tribute to the notorious dive bar in Riley's hometown of Mamou.

I put together a South Louisiana Christmas mixtape for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You'll hear several tracks from the Mamou Playboys, as well as holiday songs from Horace Trahan, Sonny Landreth, and C.J. Chenier. I also included some area favorites like Aaron Neville's "Louisiana Christmas Day", Charles Brown's "Please Come Home For Christmas", and "You're All I Want For Christmas" by Belton Richard. All of that plus the latest single from Lafayette indie rockers Scenic World, "Green & Red".
