The Pine Leaf Boys seem to love to celebrate the holidays on stage. For almost a decade now the GRAMMY-nominated Cajun band has closed out Downtown Alive! the night before Thanksgiving. A tradition that finds the quintet mixing French standards with Christmas classics, starting with the lighting of the giant Christmas tree at Parc Sans Souci. They've also made a name for themselves by being one of the busiest and most festive groups during Mardi Gras. This Monday night will mark their 5th New Year's Eve show at Artmosphere, a new ritual for the Lafayette dance band.

Led by Wilson Savoy, the Pine Leaf Boys are one of the top groups in the wave of 21st century Cajun revivalists. The band formed in the early 2000s and has since made numerous albums and toured the world with their mix of Cajun, zydeco and Louisiana roots rocks à la Jerry Lee Lewis. They also helped kick-start the successful music careers of Cedric Watson and Blake Miller. Now in their second decade, the group is looking forward to releasing a new album next year and hitting the festival circuit in Louisiana and abroad.

Joining the Pine Leaf Boys for this year's New Year's Eve party will be Dustin Gaspard. A Kaplan native, Dustin will be backed by his retro soul group The Freetown Sound. This mixtape is mostly devoted to these two groups along with other local artists playing in Lafayette this week. You'll hear nouveau zydeco from Chris Ardoin, country swamp pop from Alex Touchet, and rockin' creole accordion music from Geno Delafose.
