A lot is going this week in Lafayette when it comes to live music. New Year's Eve falls on a Tuesday this year, making this period of time between Christmas and the new year feel like Mardi Gras. For this edition of Lafayette Weekly, I'm featuring D.G. and the Freetown Sound. The local soul-rock band will host the last party of the year Tuesday night at Artmosphere along with special guest DPHRNT STRKS.

Dustin Gaspard and The Freetown Sound have been one of many r&b revival groups to emerge in our area the past ten years. The singer and guitarist won the SOLO Songwriters Festival scholarship and made his debut at Festival International this year. The Freetown Sound's EP Microphone Inheritance, Part 1 was also released in 2019.

This week's mixtape features sounds from groups playing the last shows on the year, and the ones kicking off the 20s. You'll hear music from Dustin Gaspard, Texas crooner Dale Watson, and Houma blues hero Tab Benoit. Also in the playlist are tracks from zydeco greats Cedric Watson and Horace Trahan, as well as Louisiana country star Dustin Sonnier.
