After over ten years of co-fronting Lafayette’s Pine Leaf Boys, fiddler Courtney Granger is saying farewell to his longtime bandmates. Replacing Cedric Watson is no easy task, but Wilson Savoy and his rowdy Cajun group got lucky with having their invitation accepted by Granger. The violinist was already accomplished by this time, having worked with Feufollet and acting as a key member in his family band, Balfa Toujours.

Health issues, while under control, have prevented Granger to perform regularly in recent years. A short break from the stage will allow for time to heal. This definitely won’t be the last time we hear or see from the celebrated French and country musician.

On Saturday, December 14 the Pine Leaf Boys will say goodbye to their collaborator. The quintet will perform the whole night with Granger most likely taking control of the microphone for most of the gig.

This week’s playlist will be devoted to Courtney Granger. I’ll be featuring selections from his large Cajun repertoire as well as cuts from his recent country release Beneath Still Waters. You’ll hear the title track to his solo album, a few from the Pine Leaf Boys, and his own composition “Le Two-Step des Festivals Acadiens”. Also in the mix are songs from Cedric Watson, Kelli Jones and Megan Brown, and Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys.
