It's not often Lafayette starts the week off with a bar hosting four bands (much less a metal show), but this Monday is an exception. Longtime Louisiana favorites Crowbar will be joined by Forming the Void, Ole English and Sexlord at the Freetown Boom Boom Room on McKinley St.
Almost in their 30th year, Crowbar formed in 1991 out of the demise of several metal and hardcore bands from New Orleans. The band went on to enjoy some success with airplay on MTV's Headbangers Ball and Beavis and Butt-head with the release of their self-titled album in 1993. Through the years, members came and went, and the group would often borrow players from fellow Louisiana metal outfits like Acid Bath and Goatwhore. Led by Kirk Windstein, the quartet has continued to tour and release new material into their third decade. It doesn't seem like Crowbar will be calling it quits anytime soon, but just in case they do, go see them while you can in this intimate setting.
For this week's playlist, I made a mix of hard rock and metal from right here in South Louisiana. I'm focusing this mixtape on Crowbar and their New Orleans contemporaries like Down and EyeHateGod. You'll also hear tracks from ex-Acid Bath singer Dax Riggs, Lafayette's Forming the Void, and Thou from Baton Rouge.
