The 3rd annual Krewe de Canailles parade in Lafayette happens this Friday. The eco-friendly Mardi Gras troupe will celebrate our beloved Louisiana festivals for this year’s theme. The March will end at Warehouse 535 with live performances by Curley Taylor and Soul Express Brass Band.

Taylor started his career at the young age of 16 playing drums with his father’s blues band, the Burning Flames. Since then he’s lent his hand to some of our area’s biggest names-Geno Delafose, Steve Riley, and Lil Bob and the Lollipops, just to make a few. The accordionist and singer released the 13 song album Rise Up back 2017, and has been busy performing locally and across the U.S.A. as a zydeco staple on the festival circuit.

For this week’s playlist, I’ll be featuring Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble. You’ll hear several tracks from his last album including “Creole Man”, the title track “Rise Up”, and “Zydeco Cutie”. Also on the playlist is Taylor’s recent local radio hit “Is This Love”, a cover of the Bob Marley classic. I threw in some favorite Louisiana love songs in honor of Valentine’s Day. Lil Bob’s “Nobody But You”, “Take My Hand” from Wayne Toups, and Steve Riley’s take on “My True Love” by the Balfa Brothers are all in the mix.
