Les Hay Babies have been one of the top artists to emerge from the New Brunswick Franco music scene in the last decade. The indie-folk trio formed in 2011 after performing alongside each other at a couple of Canadian songwriter gatherings. Along with their backing band, Les Hay Babies will return to Lafayette this Sunday evening for a performance at the Blue Moon Saloon.
After a performance at the highly acclaimed Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France, the three ladies became an instant hit in French-speaking Europe. With that praise came motivation and Julie Aubé, Katerine Noel, and Vivianne Roy quickly released their first full-length album Mon Homesick Heart to rave reviews and devoted following, at home and abroad.
The LP stayed true to their gritty acoustic country-punk with songs sung in their native Acadian dialect Chiac* (a mix of Maritimes French and English). The followup, La 4ième dimension found the group entering a new world of modern psychedelia pop mixed with their celebrated roots sound. Their latest single, a dreamy cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Play with Fire” sung en françaishints at an upcoming release for the new year.
Catch Les Hay Babies at the South Louisiana Songwriters Festival reunion show this Sunday with Dustin Dale Gaspard, Mark Shortall, and Devyn Gussenbauer.
