The Hub City has been home to countless DIY artists and coffeeshop singer/songwriters but is often overlooked due to the dominance of Cajun and Zydeco. One of our busiest and most aspiring performers will celebrate the birth of his debut album this weekend.
You might have seen Derrick Savoie performing around Downtown Lafayette in recent years. The self-proclaimed indie-folk artist plays mostly originals along with choice covers regularly during events like ArtWalk and in casual bar settings. The Cypremont Point, LA native has been hard at work on his first full-length self-titled album for years now and will now be available to the public this Friday night.
Two singles have already been released from Savoie's upcoming album. In this week's playlist, you'll hear these raspy acoustic ballads, "It Was My Fault" and "Bella Roo", along with tracks from other local artists performing in Lafayette. I included some barroom zydeco from veteran accordionists Step Rideau and Leroy Thomas as well as some psychedelic electronica from Orange Lazarus. Several tunes from Geno Delafose and Lil' Nathan are also in the mix for this edition of Lafayette Weekly.
