GIVERS, Lafayette's undisputed favorite pop group, are hosting an intimate listening party at Rêve Coffee Roasters on Wednesday, July 25. The band will debut their highly anticipated EP, Movin' On, and will also perform in an acoustic setting. Joining the group will be the indie-folk quartet, Shrugs, as well as DJ André Broussard.
Movin' On is their first release since 2015's New Kingdom. Two singles, "Collide" and "Love is Like a Fire," have been released with a positive response from their fans. Both songs hang on to the rhythmic and melodic Afro-pop sound the group helped popularize a decade ago. The band will embark on a nationwide tour in support of Movin' On, starting July 27 in San Antonio, TX. The EP will be released worldwide on August 3rd.
In this week's playlist, I included GIVERS' two latest singles, a couple of other tracks from their earlier releases, as well as a few tracks from the band's favorite groups like Talking Heads, Little Dragon, and Dirty Projectors. Also in sequence are songs from real rock n' rollers, The Viatones (featuring Blayze Viator), New Orleans' dreamy glam rock, Tasche and the Psychedelic Roses, and even reigning Cajun king, Wayne Toups.
