St. Patrick’s Day always seems to sneak up a little too quickly after Mardi Gras. And this weekend kicks off our spring Downtown Alive! series. If that wasn’t enough, the Hub City will also be host to a farewell tour by one of rock’s most notorious live bands.
Two heavyweights of Cajun dancehall music will share the stage for the first Downtown Alive! of this season on Friday night. High Performance, featuring Steve Riley and Jamie Bearb, will bring their Belton Richard inspired sound to the stage. Followed by the torch bearers of classic French music, Kyle Huval and the Dixie Club Ramblers.
Now in their 5th year, the Celtic Bayou Festival takes place this Friday and Saturday at Warehouse 535. The annual gathering is, without a doubt, the most authentic St. Paddy’s Day experience one can find in Acadiana. A kick-off party will be held Thursday night at the Hideaway on Lee Avenue with music by Grosse Isle from Quebec, Canada.
Two classic rock staples will roll through town Saturday night for a special performance at the CAJUNDOME. The massively successful and influential hard rock production that is KISS are on their End of the Road tour and are passing through town one last time before they call it quits. Ex-Van Halen frontman and 1980s MTV star David Lee Roth will open the show.
I’ll be featuring all of these artists for this edition of Lafayette Weekly. You’ll hear a few South Louisiana honky-tonk en français from both High Performance and Kyle Huval, plus a few tunes from Grosse Isle. Also in the mix are selections from other artists performing at Celtic Bayou as well as a couple from both KISS and Diamond Dave.
