Originally formed in 1976 by brothers Donnie and Steve Picou, Bad Clas is one of our area’s longest-lasting rock groups. Their name comes from the common Cajun French phrase which translates to "low class,” a nice fit for the group’s raw garage rock style à la early Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello.
The quartet has gone through several line up changes and numerous breakups through the years but reformed in 2002. Since their reunion, the group has performed often in Lafayette and has released 3 albums of new material. A new record has been in the works and will be released in the near future.
This week’s playlist features several tracks from Bas Clas’ large discography along with a few cuts from Colorado country-rockers Gasoline Lollipops. I’ve also included songs from world-renown fiddler Michael Doucet and a couple from Clifton Chenier featuring local legendary bassist Lee Allen Zeno.
