For several years now, the University of Lousiana at Lafayette has offered a Cajun and Creole music class. Students interested in our area's indigenous music have a chance to take weekly lessons from fais do do veterans and zydeco masters through the UL Traditional Music Program. The instructors and their pupils from this year's program will perform together this Tuesday evening at the Blue Moon Saloon.

Led by Chad Huval, The Angelle Aces will kick things off with a set of classic Cajun two-steps and French waltzes. Part of the famously large musical family from Breaux Bridge, Huval is the accordionist for the multi-GRAMMY winning group BeauSoleil. Following the Aces will be Nathan Williams Jr. and the Ragin' Two-Steppers. Known better as Lil' Nathan (or Lil' Nate), Williams will lead a band comprised of his students for a presentation of zydeco and all of its different styles. The night will end with a set by an all-star UL faculty band, which will include Megan Brown, Brazos Huval, Sam Broussard along with Chad and Nathan.

I put together a mix from the artists mentioned above as well as some tracks from other groups performing this week. You'll hear Megan Brown's recent collaboration with Kelli Jones, a couple of tracks from Lil' Nathan and the Zydeco Big Tymers, and "Menteur," a Cajun blues song by Sam Broussard done with the Mamou Playboys.
