Along with workshops, panel discussions and of course movies, Southern Screen has also become known for their after-parties. The organizers of the 8-year-old gathering of filmmakers put forth great effort into introducing outside artists and industry leaders to the things that make Lafayette so unique and enjoyable. And what's more fun and exclusive to Acadiana than zydeco?
On Saturday, November 10 Southern Screen will end the night at the Blue Moon Saloon with Mike Broussard and Nuedition Zydeko. Though his name might not be as familiar as Geno Delafose or Horace Trahan, Broussard is no stranger to the world of Lousiana Creole music. The Lawtell native spent years as a sideman with big hitters like Keith Frank, Chris Ardoin, and the legendary Roy Carrier. Now taking center stage with accordion in hand, Broussard and Nuedition Zydeko are quickly becoming one of the most popular young groups in the area.
I'm kicking things off in this week's playlist with Nuedition Zydeco's recent radio hit "Bad." To keep the groove going, I mixed in some more "nouveau zydeco" from the likes of Lil' Nate and Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys. Also in the queue are tracks from Samantha Fish, Sean Bruce, and Durwood who will be performing this week in Lafayette.
