If you're looking for a show on Halloween night, look no further than Artmosphere's 80s Night Halloween Ball featuring Rareluth. The creation of local musician and singer Christine Peirce, Rareluth is not just a band, it's an experience. She describes her music as "fantasy pop," and it's just that. Think of Kate Bush riding Falkor (the large flying dog from the popular 80s film The Neverending Story), through a cloud of retro synthesizers and modern dance beats.
Christine and her group will bring along a projector and performing popular hits from the new wave era that will be synced to the movies that made them timeless hits. If you're still thinking of a costume idea, perhaps getting a group together to dress as the cast of the Breakfast Club or going solo as Marty Mcfly will help your odds in the costume contest. Artmosphere will be giving away $200 gift certificate to the costume voted best by the audience.
Rareluth will be the featured artist in this week's playlist. It seemed only obvious to start the playlist with the group's “Feel the Fantasy" from their latest album Morph. But what's a Halloween playlist without the "Monster Mash", or a track from Alice Cooper? In the mix are classic All Hallow’s Eve anthems like Cooper’s “Welcome To My Nightmare” and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell On You”. I also included songs from local artists like The Pine Leaf Boys' "Werewolf Two-step" and "Happy Halloween" from Bobby Charles.
