Convent St. in Freetown is the spot to be if you’re looking to go out and dance this week. The downtown neighborhood is where you can catch many of our area’s most celebrated Cajun and zydeco bands after Festivals Acadiens et Créoles.

Ray Abshire’s Thursday night fais do do at the Blue Moon Saloon has become a festival tradition. This has been a great unofficial rendezvous for visiting dancers and foreign French music enthusiasts. The Moon will also host Lost Bayou Ramblers, Jourdan Thibodeaux, Radio Zydeco, and Soul Creole.

A block away on Friday night will be the second edition of Double Clutch and Double Dutch at Robert Autin’s famed plate lunch spot, the Acadian Superette. The Daiquiri Queens and Mike Broussard’s NuEdition Zydeko are two up and coming groups on the scene that brought the house down on the diner during Festival International earlier this year. Late-night Cajun comfort food will be available during the jump rope zydeco throw down.

Back up on Convent across Johnston St. at Artmosphere will be Feufollet’s CD release party with Louisiana dancehall roots rockers the Revelers. The new “best of” album celebrates the band’s 20th anniversary with 20 tracks including three new recordings. International accordion star Yoshi NakabayashiI from Tokyo is set to make a special appearance with both bands.

On Saturday night Artmosphere will welcome the Pine Leaf Boys and zydeco traditionalist Jeffery Broussard and his band the Créole Cowboys. The music venue and bistro will also host a festival after-party on Sunday evening with local country chanteuse Sabra Guzman and Chas Justus’ Cajun supergroup, Couillon Connection.

I’m featuring the three new songs released by Feufollet as well as selections from all of the artists mentioned above for this week’s mixtape. You’ll hear the latest from Lost Bayou Ramblers’ anniversary live album Asteur, a track from Nakabayashi’s Zydeco Kicks, and Mike Broussard’s “Lewisburg Twostep” featuring Church Point fiddler J.C. Leger.
