It might not feel like autumn, but cooler weather is near- and Lafayette is ready to dance. For nearly 50 years, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles has arguably been the Hub City's biggest attraction to outside visitors. Starting with only one flatbed trailer, the world-renowned festival has now expanded to four professional stages and two workshop tents to accommodate the influx of attendees.
The annual event is normally when Lafayette starts to notice migrant zydeco dancers and foreign Cajun music enthusiasts beginning to make their way down to Acadiana. Music can be heard all week leading up to the weekend, and this is often when locals and their visiting friends meet in celebration of the fall festival season. Below I made a list of shows and events that are not to be missed.
In this week's playlist, I included tracks from 20 artists who will be performing at this year's Festival Acadiens et Créoles. I tried my best to show what one can expect to hear this weekend in this eclectic mix of South Louisiana roots music. Included are traditional French tunes from the likes of Geno Delafose, to modern interpretations of classics from Cajun rockers, Lost Bayou Ramblers.
