Over the past few years, Herman Fuselier has hosted Acadiana Roots, a weekly concert series that takes place in the fall and spring. Fuselier, a journalist, radio personality, and overall Louisiana music expert invites local artists to the Daily Advertiser offices for an intimate performance and interview. On Wednesday, September 26, Yvette Landry will sit down with Herman to discuss her new album and band.
Landry, and her new band, the Jukes recently released their debut album, Louisiana Lovin'. A bit of a departure for what she's known for, the record is more classic rock n' roll than honky tonk. With tracks from Cookie and the Cupcakes and Bobby Charles, it can be seen as a swamp pop tribute album to some. With Roddie Romero on guitar and accompanying vocals, along with Eric Adcock on piano, the sound is very reminiscent of their band, the Hub City All-Stars.
In this week's playlist, I included many tracks from Louisiana Lovin', as well as some cuts from Romero's last album the GRAMMY-nominated Gulf Stream. Songs from Tommy Mclain, Lil' Bob and the Lollipops, and Carol Fran are also included in this swamp pop playlist.
