One of the first signs of autumn to arrive is the start of Downtown Alive! There’s no better way to end the workweek in Lafayette than with popular free concert series. This season opener features two accordion giants.

Though zydeco has continuously changed, one can almost always hear at least a little of the sound Clifton Chenier created. If there are two contemporary artists who have embraced this style the most they are Corey Ledet and Chubby Carrier. Most musicians have continued to change with the times but can still pump out a straight Clifton style rock beat with plenty of blues licks to match.

This edition of Lafayette Weekly will feature Ledet and Carrier along with with other groups playing in town this week. You’ll hear Ledet’s French “J’ai Parti Dans La Campagne,” Carrier’s Grammy-winning version of the classic “Jalapeño Lena,” and a Zydeco shuffle from Beausoleil. Also in the mix are a couple of fiddle tunes from Joel Savoy and Linzay Young as well as “L’Automne: Petit Adagio” from Glazunov’s The Seasons to celebrate the start of fall.
