During the fall and spring, Lafayette becomes a music mecca with free concert series held Wednesday through Friday. Kick off your weekend starting Wednesday in Pelican Park with the Mercredi Concert Series. The good times keep rolling on Thursday with Rhythms on the River, a free evening concert series held in River Ranch’s Town Square. Friday's are a doubleheader with Bach Lunch, a free popular lunchtime music series that takes place on Fridays in Downtown Lafayette that couples local food offerings with music for all ages. The fun continues into the evening on Friday with Downtown Alive! another local favorite concert series offering free music from regional artists of all genres. Ragin Cajuns Football

Louisiana’s Cajun Country has a distinct personality, known for food, family, and revelry, and it’s no different when it comes to football. Voted best collegiate team nickname by ESPN, The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns embody family fun. Kick off the 2018 Ragin Cajun Football season with the home opener on September 1 against Grambling State Tigers at 6 p.m. If you can’t make the home opener, you can stream on ESPN 3, listen on 107.9 FM or 1420 AM, or visit RaginCajuns.com for live stats. You can also catch the second home game on September 22 against Coastal Carolina, game time TBA. Rice & Gravy Cook-Off
St. Bernard Drive, Parc Des Ponts, Breaux Bridge
Looking to get a taste of every kind of rice and gravy you can think of? Then the Rice & Gravy Cook-Off held in Breaux Bridge is your one-stop shop! The annual cook-off is organized by the Breaux Bridge Lion’s Club and combines the fun of a cook-off with kids games as well as live music by Darel Gros & the Hi Rollers. Anyone can compete in the cook-off for a $50 registration fee. The cook-off will have meat, poultry, and seafood divisions as well as a division just for the kids! If you’re looking to sample all the varieties of rice and gravy the admission fee $5 per person to eat. The event starts at 8 am. and continues to 6 p.m. with the music beginning at noon and the winner announced at 4 p.m. For more information about the cook-off or schedule of events click here.

Now in its 25th-year Tinsel & Treasures gives attendees a truly one-stop shopping experience for all of their holiday needs under one roof. The categories of boutique-like shops include jewelry, food, gifts, toys, home décor, apparel and much more! To date, Tinsel & Treasures has successfully raised more than $4.7 million that has been invested in the Lafayette community through community programs benefiting women and children in Lafayette.
