Cinema on the Bayou is an annual, eight-day international juried film festival. The 16th Cinema on the Bayou Film Festival will be held at various venues in and around Lafayette, Louisiana, on January 20-27, 2021. The Festival is dedicated to presenting narrative, documentary, animated and experimental films and the filmmakers who make them in one of the friendliest, most unique cultures in the world: here in the heart of Cajun Country. Cinema on the Bayou is also committed to promoting both established and emerging filmmakers and the relationship-building that is crucial to their continued work.
Cinema on the Bayou is unique among film festivals in the United States in that it regularly screens a large number of French-language independent films and presents filmmaker from throughout the Francophone world. In 2020, the Festival screened nearly 200 films, the vast majority of which were World, U.S. or Louisiana Premieres. Included among them were more than 60 French language films, as well as films from across the United States, Canada, France, Japan, Australia, the U.K., Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Haiti and Argentina. More than 200 filmmakers, actors, musicians and other industry professionals attended last year’s Festival from Paris, London, Tokyo, Berlin, Hamburg, Madrid, Sydney, Denmark, Haiti, Los Angeles, New York, Tampa, Memphis, Nashville, Austin, Houston, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, New Mexico, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Kansas City, Toronto, Ontario, Calgary, Moncton, Nova Scotia, Quebec City, Montreal, and Gaspesie.
Venues include Cite des Arts, Vermilionville Performance Center, the Lafayette Parish Library South Regional Branch and St. Landry Cinemas.
