Dates: November 6, 2017 - December 15, 2017
Recurring: Recurring daily
There are thousands of senior citizens in the Acadiana area in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and living alone, who spend Christmas like any other day. Many receive no gifts during the holiday season or visitors as most of their loved ones are scarce or have passed on. A shoe box may not seem like a lot, but the smiles brought to otherwise unhappy faces, says differently.
So here's how you can help. KTDY would like you to fill an unwrapped regular shoe box(s) with items fitting for a elderly male/female. You may also use the inexpensive plastic see-through kind. Lynda Southard with the Cajun Area Agency on Aging has a few suggestions as to what you might include.
- Word Puzzles or Cards (Any Mind-stimulating Game)
- Lotions and Soaps
- Socks (With Grips)
- Coloring Books (Including Colors)
No need to decorate your shoe boxes this year and feel free to load up as many as you'd like. This year serving 8 parishes, we'll need more than ever. And if your shoe box is gender specific, please indicate whether your shoe box has been filled with items for a male or female. Please mark the outside lid of the box.
So now that you have your shoe box(s) filled with goodies ready to put a smile on beautiful faces, what do you do with them? Glad you asked. Please drop them off to KTDY, 1749 Bertrand Dr., Lafayette, La. or The Blake at Lafayette Assisted Living and Memory Care, 400 Polly Lane, Lafayette, La (Just off Kaliste Saloom). We will accept shoe boxes November 6 - December 15.
