A springtime site for sore eyes since the 1930s, Lafayette's Azalea Trail meanders its way through twenty-five miles of the city's historic and garden districts. In the '80s Southern Living magazine dubbed the trail one of the "Top 20 Tourist Destinations in the South," and in 2016, the Azalea Society of America certified Lafayette, Louisiana as an Official Azalea City—one of only sixteen in the United States.
Notable along the trail are several historic and scenic points of interest including Sterling Grove historic homes, the downtown arts district, the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist with its 500-year old live oak, and more. Begin your trail tour by grabbing an official map at the Lafayette Visitors Center at 1400 NW Evangeline Thruway. Visit azaleatrail.org for history, maps, events, and prime bloom times.
