Cité des Arts hosts a one-person exhibition by local Artist, Doug Nehrbass.  Doug Nehrbass was born in Lafayette and grew up in the Acadiana area.  At an early age he was encouraged to pursue graphic arts and so started his artistic journey. Doug’s formal education in art, continued through his college years. After a few decades of life events, that included raising a family, a work career, and all the expected and unexpected turns, he once again found himself a student of the arts.

Since retiring and moving back home to southwest Louisiana in 2018, Doug has been able to resume his lifelong passion of drawing and painting. His circle is becoming complete.  As Doug himself states it: “Following an assessment of where my paintings were heading, I determined that it was time for a reset. I felt the need to return to the basics, and to concentrate on skills that make up the building blocks for my work. The most important being draftsmanship and using a simplified palette.  As I was making the transition, I was invited to hold an exhibit here. After touring the space, I determined how to approach the task, and what the contents of the show would be. This body of work was produced to fulfill this purpose and to occupy these walls.  This installation of paintings is the culmination of another journey. It has proven to be one that helped me clear some personal hurdles and move on to the next destination.”

The exhibition will run through October 31st, at 109 Vine Street in downtown Lafayette. The Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday – Friday.  For information on weekend times, please go to citedesarts.org, Facebook or call us at 337-291-1122.
