Director of Media Relations

Overview

As the Director of Media Relations for Lafayette Travel, you'll be responsible for promoting Lafayette Parish to local, national, and international media and visitors. Your role will encompass a range of responsibilities, from creating advertising strategies to managing media relations and coordinating events.

Roles & Responsibilities

Advertising

  • Research new media, create an annual plan, and coordinate the production of annual placements on behalf of Lafayette Travel
  • Provide monthly board reporting for all advertising efforts

Event Calendar + Brochures

  • Update calendar with new events and ensure annual events are up to date
  • Produce the annual brochures, including Festivals and Fairs, Christmas, and Mardi Gras

Media Database & Monitoring Programs

  • Maintain responsibility for the SimpleView CRM system and Meltwater media monitoring, including monthly meetings with reps, staying on top of what’s new, working with staff on updating data, etc.

Travel Writers

  • Managing any and all communication from inquiries related to media visiting Lafayette
  • Managing the travel writer process from when the request is received to booking a hotel, planning and confirming itineraries, hosting media while in market, data entry, subsequent follow-up, and maintaining relationship
  • Generating monthly reports based on reach, ad equivalency, mentions, and other metrics
  • Work with team members when necessary to coordinate efforts (Social Media)
  • Coordinate at least two annual press trips and any other press trips that align with our annual campaigns or new products
  • Monthly media newsletter aimed at travel writers that includes the latest blog posts, story mentions, travel writer placements, and pitches

Public Relations

  • Send press releases with anything newsworthy for Lafayette Travel and its affiliates
  • Maintain media list in the state of Louisiana, nationally, and internationally as applicable
  • Create pitches based on stories from our blog to national and international media

Special Events

  • Assist in executing EatLafayette and the Taste of EatLafayette event
  • Assist in any upcoming conferences such as the International Food and Wine Travel Association Annual Conference

Product Development

  • Staying on top of what’s new and happening in and around town, as well as identifying opportunities to create new product
