Lafayette’s music, food, tourism, and French heritage will take center stage this summer in Brittany, France, with a new Lafayette tourism presence planned for the upcoming Festival Interceltique de Lorient, one of France’s largest urban festivals, attracting an estimated 800,000 to 1 million visitors each year.
The announcement of Lafayette’s participation, including the city’s tourism presence at the festival and the international performance of Louisiana musician Louis Michot, will be formally unveiled during a press conference on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at Wild Child Wines in Lafayette. The press conference will feature remarks from Mayor-President Monique Boulet, Lafayette Travel President and CEO Ben Berthelot, and cultural partners involved in the initiative.
Following the press conference, the celebration will continue with Fête de la Bretagne Louisiane from 12 to 5 p.m. at Wild Child Wines, featuring Breton gastronomy tastings, Louisiana–Brittany cultural exchange, and live music by Louis Michot. The public event will highlight the growing cultural bridge between Louisiana and Brittany.
The Lafayette presence in Lorient, facilitated by Breizh Amerika, builds on years of cultural exchange between Acadiana and Brittany, including music collaborations, tourism and business programming, food and beverage partnerships, official regional delegations, and reciprocal festival appearances in both Louisiana and France.
“Festival Interceltique de Lorient offers Lafayette an extraordinary opportunity to share our food, music, French language heritage, and cultural identity with hundreds of thousands of international visitors,” said Ben Berthelot, President and CEO of Lafayette Travel. “We are grateful to Breizh Amerika for helping create this bridge between Lafayette and Brittany.”
“Every exchange creates new opportunities,” said Charles Kergaravat, President of Breizh Amerika. “A concert becomes a collaboration. A tasting becomes a tourism conversation. A festival booth becomes an invitation to visit Lafayette. That is the power of cultural diplomacy when it is rooted in real community relationships.”
“This is a powerful opportunity to share Lafayette’s story on an international stage. Our music, our food, and our French heritage are at the heart of who we are, and through partnerships like this, we are strengthening global connections that create lasting cultural and economic impact for our community,” said Mayor-President Monique Boulet.
The announcement comes as Louisiana musician Louis Michot prepares to perform at the 2026 Festival Interceltique de Lorient with Louis Michot & SWAMP MAGIC. Michot, a two-time Grammy Award winner and a leading voice in Louisiana French music, is scheduled for festival appearances from August 3–6, 2026.
That performance follows prior collaboration in Lafayette during Festival Acadiens et Créoles programming, which brought Breton artists together with Louisiana musicians in a continued cultural dialogue rooted in shared traditions, regional languages, and living cultural memory.
Wild Child Wines, known for its international wine selection and globally inspired food culture, provides a natural setting for both the press announcement and the public celebration focused on gastronomy, travel, and transatlantic cultural exchange.
