Lafayette Travel has released the second episode of its original video series Gumbo People, which highlights the artists, culture bearers, and professionals who help shape the parish’s cultural identity. The latest episode spotlights internationally renowned muralist Robert Dafford, whose work has transformed public spaces across Louisiana and beyond.

With a career spanning decades, Dafford is celebrated for his large-scale murals that capture the vibrancy of local history, music, and culture. HisGumbo People feature reflects on the power of art to connect communities, his deep ties to Lafayette, and his role in preserving stories through visual expression.

“Growing up here gave me an inside understanding of who we are,” says Robert Dafford. “And it gave me a duty to help preserve and celebrate that. I realized I wasn’t just making pictures. I was helping communities see themselves and their history in a new way. That became my real mission.”
The series debuted in August with a feature on acclaimed artist Francis Pavy, and will continue with new episodes highlighting Ben Pierce, Michelle “Malentina” Colon, Erica Fox, and more.
The Gumbo People series is available to watch at GumboPeople.com and will be promoted through Lafayette Travel’s social media channels throughout the year.
